Introducing: New Feeling News Feed

Introducing: New Feeling News Feed

Hey everyone,

We’re excited to share a new feature we’re developing for New Feeling: the New Feeling News Feed!

The News Feed is a dedicated space on our website for member-submitted press releases, giving artists, labels, and other community members a place to share news about their upcoming releases, live events, and other projects directly with our readership.

We know getting the word out about your work can be tough, especially if you don’t have the budget for a PR representative or access to traditional music media. We want to help change that by making it easier for our community to share what they’re working on and connect with people who want to hear about it.

What does this mean for members?

As part of this new initiative, New Feeling members will be able to submit press releases for consideration in the News Feed. We envision this as a space where you can share announcements about new albums, singles, upcoming shows, and other exciting projects with the wider New Feeling community.

The News Feed has its own dedicated section on our website, separate from our editorial coverage. This distinction is important to us: the News Feed will provide a platform for announcements from our community, while our reviews, interviews, and other editorial work will continue to operate independently.

Who can use the News Feed?

The New Feeling News Feed will be a membership benefit, meaning you’ll need an active New Feeling membership to submit a press release. Membership is $5/month and $55/year, and joining gives you the opportunity to share announcements about your work directly with our readership.

We’re envisioning the News Feed as a space for announcements about new albums, singles, upcoming shows, and other projects relevant to our music community. To keep the process manageable for our editorial team and ensure the News Wire remains useful to readers, submissions will be subject to our guidelines and review process, with members limited to 4 submissions a month. We’re allotting 1-2 weeks to review each press release submission.

Please note that membership provides the opportunity to submit a press release for consideration, rather than a guarantee of publication. Our team will review submissions before they appear on the website, and you can find our full submission guidelines here.

Why are we doing this?

We want New Feeling to be more than a publication you read. We want it to be a place where our community can connect, support one another, and share the work that matters to them.

We also recognize that a lot is happening in our music community that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. The News Feed is one way we hope to help bridge that gap, giving independent artists and organizers another avenue to reach an engaged audience.

Just as importantly, this initiative is part of our broader effort to create more sustainable paid work within the co-op. Developing and maintaining the News Feed will create opportunities to compensate members for the editorial work involved in reviewing, editing, and publishing submissions.

What happens next?

This is a new feature that we will evaluate as people use it. We’ve established a set of submission guidelines, and a review process to help ensure the feature is useful, sustainable, and consistent with New Feeling’s values.

We’ll share more information about how to submit, what kinds of announcements we’re looking for, and when the News Feed will officially launch as those details are finalized.

In the meantime, we’d love for you to start thinking about how you might use this space to share your work or help spread the word about projects happening in our community.

Thanks, as always, for being part of New Feeling and helping us build something that supports the people making music happen.

In solidarity,

The New Feeling Organizing Members
